What now?...

This is the website of Nicole Jensen, a 20-something from Brisbane, Australia. I enjoy geekery, fine wine, drumming, knitting and hearing how your day has been so far. Stay tuned while the site climbs out of beta mode and is injected with blogs, vlogs, events and more.

Another tid-bit...

This site hosts information on what I'm up to, how to hire me as your event manager, proofreader or blogger, what my mates are doing and other stuff. Feel free to contact me at any time for any reason and I'm sure we'll get on fabulously!

Events

Current

Women in Technology (WiT) - I am the Administration Officer for WiT. So I organise amazing events, manage the membership database and run some social media for them! It’s lots of fun and I really do love my job.

Brisbane Twitter Underground Brigade (BTUB) - Every now and then I arrange kick-arse social events for my local Twitter group. Have an account? Add @BTUB as a contact and come along! Most events are put up on the Facebook group for all to see. We go out to the pub at our most casual, we’ve done house parties, coffee and we’ve even done croquet.

Social Media Club Brisbane - Kicking off and going well. I’m on the committee for SMCB which works to consult, educate and maintain the thriving social media networks of south east Queensland. Our wiki page is here.

2009

  • Brisbane Twestival Local - As mentioned here, I organised a fundraiser for September. “A Twestival or Twitter-Festival is a global series of events organized by volunteers around the world under short timescales via Twitter, which bring people offline for a great cause. Twestival is run 100% by volunteers and independently from any not-for-profit; although the organizing teams do work closely to outline an achievable and measurable fundraising target. Twestival also sets out to identify key skills of volunteers and match these with the needs of the cause; particularly communications strategy, tech integration and social media training.” - Twibbon.com
  • Volunteer Team Leader for Sounds of Spring Music Festival
  • Event Volunteer for New Fangled Functions, Fireball 2009 event
  • Event Manager for Queensland Business Icon

“I have worked with Nicole Jensen for only a brief period of time as she undertook the role of Events Manager for Business Icon Queensland. During a volatile time, I have asked for her to be involved as she is a trustworthy individual with energy and passion for events and this is something that I already know prior to this project. In the short period that I have worked with her, Nicole Jensen has been the ideas and social media geekgirl as well. It is unfortunate that the program for 2009 has been cut off but I recommend Nicole for future events projects.” (Hannah Suarez, Sponsorship Manager, Queensland Business Icon, May 2009)

  • Event & Sponsorship Manager for Twestival – February - As mentioned here.

“Nicole and the small group who organised Twestival created an amazing event from scratch with only 4 weeks to do it, and managed to raise a sizeable donation for charity. In itself that speaks for itself. Her time and skills were given willingly for free, and every obstacle that appeared was handled and dealt with. She is obviously very capable as an event organiser.” (Darryl King, CEO, Ireckon, Feb 2009)

“In organising Brisbane Twestival, one of the world’s first in a string of combined global charity events, Nicole’s ability to bring together a seamless, well organised event in a matter of weeks was nothing short of phenomenal. Nicole coordinated not just an outstanding lineup of performers and artists, but was also instrumental in securing a list of notable sponsors, whose various contributions helped build the event’s profile. Her people management skills also brought together a diverse group of volunteers, who she expertly managed in producing a completely professional event that was attended by hundreds of people, and entirely successful in its aim: to raise enough money for charity:water to build at least one well in an underdeveloped country. I highly recommend Nicole as an event manager who will deliver an exceptional event on every occasion.” (Dave Earley, Journalist, The Courier-Mail, Feb 2009)

2008

  • Functions Co-ordinator for Heritage Catering, QLD Museum – February to December
  • Usher & General Volunteer for Audi AFA MSQuerade Ball
  • Event Volunteer for various Business Chicks events
  • Publicity Consultant for Soirée Committee, International House College Student Club
  • Event Manager for COTAH Events Conference Series 2008 (see blogs written on this here)

“Getting me and others who are leaders in their respective fields to donate effectively half a day to address a group of students demonstrated not only Nicole Jensen’s powers of persuasion and organisation. The way she engaged my support demonstrated her ability to use the new social media to great effect: she knows how to use technology well that others just talk about using. A can-do person you want in your organisation.” (Des Walsh, Social Media Strategist, Des Walsh dot Com, Jan 2009)

“Nicole displayed considerable resourcefulness and flexibility in obtaining speakers for the COTAH Events conference series 2008, and in my business dealings with her has demonstrated a professional approach and a deep level of understanding of the business requirements of an events. Nicole is sharp and focussed, demonstrating an engagement and passion for her work that is absolutely positive to work with. I have no doubt that Nicole can assist any business in whatever role she puts herself forward for.” (Micheal Axelsen, Director, Applied Insight Pty Ltd, Jan 2009)

2007

  • Shop & Games Room Convener for International House College Student Club - January to June

2006

  • Cultural Committee Member for International House College Student Club - February to December
  • Co-Publicity Convener for Soirée Committee, International House College Student Club - February to December

“While I had only just known Nikki at that point, and so didn’t get to see most of the work she did (I arrived at International House just before Soiree), I found that she was very thorough and dedicated to the cause of publicizing Soiree in as many ways as possible. She made sure there were a team of Flag Girls and Coloured Men (mascots) promoting Soiree any chance we got, and she even managed to score free publicity through the Brisbane CityCat’s 4U.TV. She is still regarded highly for her work – in fact, she has been called in by this year’s Soiree team as a publicity consultant. If you need a bright young woman who’s down to earth and driven, get Nikki!” (Tiara Shafiq, Student, Resident, Convenor (Food, Sponsorship), International House Brisbane, 2008)
